Tips for Better Output

Get higher quality results from every tool

The quality of what Mentra generates is directly shaped by the information you give it. These tips will help you get more accurate, usable, and creative results every time.

Be Specific About Your Context

The more context you provide, the more targeted the output will be. Always try to specify:

  • Grade level — "Grade 4" is better than "elementary." "First-year college" is better than "higher ed."
  • Subject and topic — "Fractions — adding unlike denominators" beats "math."
  • Learning objective — Tell the tool what students should be able to do after the lesson.
  • Student context — Mention if your class has a high proportion of ELL students, students with IEPs, or advanced learners.

Use the Tone and Style Fields

Many tools include tone or style options. Use them intentionally:

  • Formal vs. conversational — Rubrics often work better in formal language; student-facing activities often land better in a friendly, conversational tone.
  • Length — If there's a length or detail slider, start shorter. You can always ask for an expanded version.
  • Format — Some tools let you choose between bullet lists, numbered steps, or paragraph form. Match the format to how you'll use the content.

Iterate Instead of Starting Over

If the first output isn't right, don't clear and start over — refine it:

  • Adjust one or two form fields at a time to see what changes the output.
  • In Agent chats, tell the AI what specifically you'd like to change: "That's good, but make the vocabulary simpler" or "Add a collaborative component."
  • Use Session History to compare this output to previous ones from the same session.

Match the Tool to the Task

Using the right tool makes a big difference. Common examples:

  • Need a structured activity with a clear standard? → Lesson Plan Generator
  • Need to check comprehension quickly? → Exit Ticket Generator
  • Need to assess student work fairly? → Rubric Generator
  • Need to support student social-emotional learning? → SEL Activity Generator
  • Not sure which tool to use? → Start a conversation with an AI Agent and describe what you need.

Review and Edit Every Output

AI-generated content is a strong first draft — always a starting point, not a finished product.

  • Read through the full output before copying or sharing it.
  • Check that facts, dates, and content-specific details are accurate.
  • Personalise it for your classroom — add student names, school context, or local examples where appropriate.
  • Adjust the reading level if needed for your specific students.
Tip: The best outputs combine AI efficiency with your professional judgement. Think of the tool as a very fast first draft, not a replacement for your expertise.
